Set within 10 acres of peaceful private countryside, Buckhurst and Mountbatten have been thoughtfully created to offer guests space, comfort and complete relaxation.
For those seeking privacy and flexibility, we offer a seamless contact-free self check-in and check-out experience, allowing you to arrive and settle in entirely at your own pace. Each hut is carefully cleaned and prepared before every stay, with sanitising products provided for your comfort and convenience.
To help you ease into slower mornings, we provide a generous seasonal breakfast hamper featuring freshly baked croissants and pain au chocolat, artisan bread, butter, preserves, honey, granola, fresh fruit, orange juice, tea, Nespresso coffee and a selection of sweet treats.
Whenever possible, we also love sharing produce grown here at Washington itself, including strawberries, raspberries, apples, pears, damsons, plums, blueberries and tomatoes — small seasonal touches that reflect the changing countryside around us.
The breakfast hamper is designed to comfortably last up to four days, and for guests enjoying longer stays, we are very happy to replenish hampers upon request, whilst always respecting the privacy and tranquillity of your stay.
Beyond the huts themselves, guests are welcome to enjoy most of the surrounding grounds, including a secluded orchard garden tucked quietly behind the huts. Here you’ll find comfortable loungers, outdoor dining areas and relaxed seating spaces — perfect for slow afternoons, morning coffee or evenings beneath the stars.
New for Spring/Summer
Our guests can now enjoy a large fire pit area complete with hanging BBQ grill, created exclusively for use by Buckhurst and Mountbatten guests. BBQ utensils and a lighter are provided, with guests simply needing to bring charcoal, firewood and any ingredients they wish to cook.
Inside the huts, you’ll find carefully chosen touches designed to create a cosy home-from-home atmosphere, including Smart TVs with Netflix, BBC iPlayer and YouTube ready to enjoy without login requirements, alongside books, board games, toys and Bluetooth music systems for relaxed evenings indoors.
We have also upgraded the internet connection with hardwired broadband direct from the main house, providing strong and reliable WiFi throughout your stay.
Both huts are fully electric and designed for year-round comfort. Buckhurst features a cosy log-effect fire within the living space, while Mountbatten offers luxurious underfloor heating and warm towel radiators for those colder countryside mornings.
Buckhurst
Our Shepherd's Hut is a self-contained detached and isolated accommodation (approx. 30 yards from the main property).
Buckhurst Shepherd's hut is ideally suited to couples; however, there is also a bunk bed, above the main double bed, available for one child between the ages of approximately 5 and 10. A travel cot is also available for younger children (size approx 40"/100cm x 28"/70cm x 30"/75cm).
Size of the Shepherd's Hut is approx. 24ft x 8ft - it has an open plan living, bedroom and kitchen area, and separate bathroom with shower, WC and sink, with a selection of toiletries provided.
The open-plan living area has a double bed with single bunk on top. The beds are made-up with fresh linen prior to arrival; if guests are staying 5 days or longer, we can provide additional fresh linen, on request, which will be left in the Hut to enable a linen change.
The kitchen is fully equipped with comprehensive self-catering facilities including an electric oven and stove, fridge freezer and sink, as well cutlery, crockery, condiments and all the cooking basics guests will require.
Mountbatten
We are proud to announce Mountbatten is up and running and has hosted approximately 100 guests with 5* reviews and "Guest Favourite" on Airbnb. With a William Morris themed living area and underfloor heating to name but a few of its luxuries.
Size of the Shepherd's Hut is approx. 20ft x 8ft - it has an open plan living, bedroom and kitchen area, and separate bathroom with shower, WC and sink, with a selection of toiletries provided.
